2010 Yamaha FX Nytro XTX

Terrific all around

This sled has been everything I hoped it would be. I had numerous criteria that needed to be met when I started my search for a new sled. I was looking for trail comfort, the ability to move off-trail, reliability, good mileage, and strong power. The Yamaha Nytro XTX delivers on all fronts. The s...nowmobiles I had owned before the Nytro were all "traditional" seating styled sleds. After riding a 2007 SkiDoo 500SS, I was sold on the rider forward position and the comfort brought about by a taller seat and the ability to comfortably ride the sled while standing. Authors in several publications have criticized the steering position of the Nytro's handlebars. They are angled slightly toward the driver, much like a car's steering wheel. While this does feel slightly awkward at first, I feel it makes riding in a standing position much easier, as I have more leverage on the handlebars than I would if they were in a flatter position. I found the XTX much easier to ride aggressively in a standing position than the very SkiDoo that sold me on that position in the first place. The steering is on the heavy side, which I prefer. The suspension tune-ability is exceptional on this sled with compression and rebound clickers both up front and on the rear skid. The 144 inch ripsaw track provides exceptional traction on-trail, and good flotation off-trail. It is no secret that the 138hp three cylinder engine in this sled has the ability to excite! Instant torque is available throughout the powerband, and the rear-exiting exhaust sounds amazing and aggressive. A solid squeeze of the throttle elicits a deep growl from the exhaust, exiting just behind the driver. Smiles quickly follow. Reliability is second to none. I did add Dooly carbides up front, and the sled exhibits no darting whatsoever. It feels as rock solid and confidence inspiring at 90mph as it does at 40. There are lighter sleds out there. There are faster sleds out there. There are better handling sleds out there. But when you consider the mileage, reliability, power, tunability of the suspension, and resale value of the Yamaha Nytro XTX, it is a tough sled to beat all-around. Read Full Review
