Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum announces inductees
Four new SHOF members in 2010
The Board of Directors of the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum (SHOF) have announced the 2010 inductees – Keith Vreeland, Clyde Seely, Ray Monsrud, and Jim Dimmerman.
Keith Vreeland:
Vreeland, of Mosinee, Wis., has been riding the snowmobile trails of North American since 1969. According to the SHOF, Vreeland helped spawn new trail systems from California to main. In 1986 he developed the first statewide Wisconsin snowmobile trail map, helping to promote the regional touring potential and trail planning through the state. He also founded Team Oasis and the Ambassadors of Snowmobiling and in 1983 led a trail adventure from St. Paul, Minn. to Valcourt, Que. and back. He was named “Snowmobiler of the Year” by Snowmobile magazine in 1987.
Clyde Seely:
When it comes to snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park, Clyde Seely is one of the first names that come to mind. He is the first person to market, package and promote snowmobiling in West Yellowstone. He has been a key proponent of snowmobiling in the park and has been defending the rights of snowmobilers since snowmobiling in Yellowstone first came under attack in 1985. In 2000 he helped convince Arctic Cat to produce a number of prototype 4-stroke powered snowmobile dubbed “The Yellowstone Special.”
Ray Monsrud:
Monsrud, a decorated snowmobile racer, had a 40-year career with Polaris. He has worked as Polaris Race Director and helped form an independent race team that dominated terrain competition for two decades. He convinced Polaris to enter cross-country racing, which led the development of the venerable Indy snowmobile.
Jim Dimmerman:
Dimmerman is a decorated snowmobile racer who competed in oval, drag and speed run competitions. A factory Team Arctic Sno Pro racer beginning in 1978, Dimmerman has notched racing victories at oval venues, including the 1980 Hetteen Cup and was an Eagle River World Championship finalist every year from 1979 through 1986. In addition to numerous NSSR speed run records, Dimmerman was also the first person to pilot a snowmobile on asphalt at the NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn.
