While the trail north was groomed along logging roads in the past, now a 60-kilometer part of the journey is along a new snowmobiling-specific trail. There is also a new warm-up shack along the trail on top of Montreal River Hill, where you can enjoy a grand view of the surrounding area. In fact, being the highest spot in the area, this is your best, if not the only, chance to find a cell phone signal. You can extend your mileage along Hornepayne’s local Bobcat Loop, and if you push on to Hearst and back, your day will instantly qualify as epic.

Heading west along D trail, you can set your sights on White River for a fun day trip, or if you fancy some impressive mileage to your odometer, Marathon is as far west as you can go. No matter the destination, be sure to stop in at Fishing Moose Lodge for lunch.
