For almost a decade, snocross racing at the X Games has been the Tucker Hibbert Show. That trend continued this past weekend as Hibbert won his ninth straight X Games gold medal.

While Hibbert (Monster Energy / Arctic Cat / Ram Truck) has had to battle back from mid-pack starts for much of the 2015-2016 AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series, there was little this in Aspen, Colo. as Hibbert surged to the holeshot and never looked back.

After the first turn, Ski-Doo pilot Adam Renheim and Polaris’ Corin Todd settled into second and third and began their chase of Hibbert. Renheim hung tough and was within a few seconds of Hibbert for the first handful of laps, but Hibbert kept adding to his lead lap by lap. By the end of the race, Hibbert bested Renheim by about 10.7 seconds.

Though Todd was never able to get by Renheim, he hung on for third place less than four seconds behind Renheim. Logan Christian (Arctic Cat) crossed the finish line about 1.5 seconds after Todd in fourth place with nearly a seven-second cushion on fifth place finisher John Stenberg (Ski-Doo).

With this gold medal, Hibbert is the first X Games winter athlete to win nine consecutive gold medals and now holds the most medals in a single discipline with 10.

“I feel honored to win nine golds in-a-row. It’s an awesome experience to come to X Games, compete and have the success we [the team] have had,” says Hibbert. “It feels great. All the hard work is paying off and it’s a lot of fun.

“I didn’t have any expectations for the track. Every year it’s different so I don’t try to anticipate what it’s going to be. It’s definitely an advantage to be able to adapt and ride any kind of track and do it well. I think that’s a key to my success. With my experience and all the different conditions I’ve raced in, it’s an advantage for me.

“We got in some really solid testing before X Games. Steve from Speedwerx worked hard with us to get our clutching setup for the holeshot and it showed.”

While you might think the 31-year-old racer is starting to think about winding things down, snocross fans can expect to see him back at X Games next year.

“I don’t have a master plan or big goal of winning a certain amount of medals. I want to keep racing as long as I’m competitive and am still enjoying it,” says Hibbert.
