Hibbert Sweeps Again at US Air Force Deadwood Snocross
Defending champ holds commanding lead through eight rounds of racing
The world’s top snocross racers made their way to Deadwood, SD for rounds seven and eight of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series.
Already holding a sizeable lead in the chase for the Pro Open championship, Arctic Cat pilot Tucker Hibbert put the pedal to metal and earned his second straight weekend sweep.
Hibbert went into Friday’s Pro Open final as the top qualifier after he cruised to wins in the qualifying rounds. It was Corin Todd, however, that earned the Stud Boy Holeshot, followed by Ross Martin in second and Tim Tremblay in third. Hibbert, meanwhile, was pinched hard on the start and settled into the fifth spot in the early going.
Hibbert made a big pass on Tremblay through the Polaris Corner and followed that up by passing Martin for second place on lap nine. Todd held nearly a two-second lead on the charging Hibbert. As the pair approached the lap traffic, Todd made clean passes and moved nicely through the field. Hibbert dealt with the lappers and finally made the pass on Todd on lap 17 with a hard outside charge around the FXR Turn over the big fly away jump for the lead.
Hibbert and Todd would finish in that order and for a while it was looking like Martin would join them on the podium. Trembley had other ideas and made a charge through the Air Force Flyaway section to challenge Martin for the final spot on the box. Through lapped traffic, Tremblay made a clean inside pass on Martin and into third, which is where he would stay
In Saturday’s Pro Open final, it was David Joanis who jumped out to the fast start to earn the Stud Boy Holeshot. However, Jake Scott got by Joanis in short order to take over the early lead. Hibbert, once again the top qualifier, was in sixth place after the start.
Nine laps into the race Hibbert got by Corin Todd and Adam Renheim to settle into second place and begin his pursuit of Scott.
With 10 laps to go, Scott, Hibbert and Renheim made up the top three. Scott was throwing heavy roost at Hibbert in hopes to hold him off, but in a huge pass through the FXR Turn, Hibbert railed the outside line and flied by Scott for the lead.
With three laps to go, Renheim fought his way past Scott to claim second place, while Scott finished the race in third. This was the first ever Pro Open podium finish for Scott.
“Every time I get out front, I always make a mistake, the whole time I was yelling at myself to be smooth and ride as fast as I can,” said Scott.
After a clean sweep on the weekend winning all four rounds of qualifying and both final events, Hibbert now holds a 66-point championship lead over Tim Tremblay. Adam Renheim is a further 11 points behind Tremblay in third.
