October Snowmobile Riding in Alaska + Video
While you were getting dressed up for Halloween this past weekend, X-Games medalist and Motorfist-sponsored athlete Cory Davis was snowmobiling.
Just the thought of riding this early in the year seems foreign to most of us, but Davis lives in Alaska, where things are a bit different.
Davis headed north from his home town of Soldotna to Summit Lake, home of Arctic Man in the Alaska Mountain Range. During the winter, Davis normally rides just an hour from his house, but for his Halloween ride he had a nine-hour commute to find good snow. That’s a long drive, but a chance for October snowmobiling is hard to pass up.
Upon arrival, the parking lot only had six inches of snow, but after ascending 1,000 feet, Davis was relieved to find plenty more. He described the October ride as surprisingly good for this early.
“The perfect ride for me is a four foot blower day with some good sized booters. On this ride I was lucky enough to find a decent sized jump along with some great pow and that felt awesome,” said Davis.
Lucky for us, Motorfist sent Kory Robbins to Summit Lake to document the ride. For the rest of us, we’ll keep hunting for that early snow.
